Renowned Worship Leader Ron Kenoly Passes On at 81

Legendary American gospel singer and worship leader Dr. Ron Kenoly has died at the age of 81. According to reports online, he passed on on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

The news of his death was first reported by multiple outlets and quickly shared by fellow artists such as Nigerian gospel singer, Nathaniel Bassey and fans remembering his profound influence on contemporary Christian music.

Ron Kenoly, born December 6, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kansas, U.S., was one of the most influential figures in praise and worship music globally.

Over a career that spanned more than four decades, he became known for bringing energetic, celebratory worship into churches and concert halls around the world. His breakthrough came in the early 1990s with albums like Lift Him Up with Ron Kenoly, which became one of the fastest-selling worship albums of its time and helped popularize contemporary praise music across denominational lines.

Kenoly’s musical style blended jubilant praise with deep spiritual conviction, making songs such as “Our God Is Able” and “Jesus Is Alive” staples in Christian worship services globally.

Beyond his singing, he was also a songwriter, worship leader, and pastor with extensive academic training that included a music degree, a Master of Divinity, and a Doctorate in sacred music.

Throughout his ministry, Kenoly emphasized creating environments where worshippers could experience the “manifest presence of God.”

Friends, fans, and fellow musicians have taken to social media to honor his legacy, describing him as a “giant of worship” whose voice and music “pointed millions to Jesus.”

While details surrounding his death are still emerging, some reports noted he had faced respiratory challenges recently, though he continued to perform and minister until shortly before his passing.
