Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has presented 100 brand new official vehicles to Level 17 officers across the state’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies, and this is not the first, but the third time his administration has carried out such an exercise since he was re-elected in 2023.
The vehicles were distributed to Level 17 officers during a ceremony held at the State House in Alausa on Tuesday March 24, 2026, with the governor urging beneficiaries to justify the gesture with improved service delivery.
“These are Directors who play a key role in how our Ministries, Departments, and Agencies deliver results. Supporting them is a practical step to help them do their work better,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He described the intervention as part of broader efforts to strengthen the capacity and efficiency of the public service, noting that a motivated workforce remains critical to achieving the government’s development objectives. “This gesture is not only to appreciate your contributions but to renew your sense of responsibility and commitment to public service. It is also meant to inspire officers in lower cadres to strive for excellence,” he said.
Not every director on Level 17 received a vehicle. Those who received the official vehicles were the ones who won during a ballot organised by the Office of the Head of Service, with others placed on a queue to benefit in subsequent exercises.
Responding on behalf of the recipients, the Secretary of the Lagos State Staff Housing and Loans Board Abdulrafiu Fashola expressed appreciation on behalf of all directors. “This remarkable gesture will undoubtedly have a profound impact on our daily lives. Your belief in us and your willingness to go above and beyond have truly touched our hearts,” he said, promising improved dedication and performance.
Beyond the vehicles Sanwo-Olu also highlighted ongoing welfare initiatives including a housing loan scheme designed to improve workers’ living conditions, part of what the governor described as a deliberate investment in the machinery of governance that goes beyond symbolic gestures.
Level 17 is the highest cadre in the Nigerian public service structure, occupied by directors who head departments and serve as the most senior career officers in government ministries and agencies.
