Shameful That US Congress Acts While Abuja Politics — Bakare Slams Senators

The Lead Pastor of Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, on Sunday accused Nigerian senators of abandoning their duties amid rampant insecurity while the United States Congress takes decisive action on the killings ravaging the country.

Delivering his State of the Nation Address in Lagos, Bakare described the National Assembly’s silence as a national disgrace.

“It is a shame on our National Assembly that it took the United States Congress, not the representatives elected by Nigerians, to convene a hearing on the lived experiences of citizens suffering under insecurity,” he declared.

He accused lawmakers of being distracted by political games ahead of 2027.

“While those in Abuja were busy with politicking, post-turning for political relevance, defecting from one political party to another, in their desperate manoeuvres to secure their seats ahead of the 2027 elections,” Bakare said.

The pastor also referenced recent strong remarks by US President Donald Trump, who reportedly described Nigeria as a “now-disgraced country” – language Bakare called “the most despicable” ever used by a world leader against the nation.

He accused the Nigerian government of waking up only after Trump’s outburst, exposing what he termed its earlier indifference.

Bakare further lambasted the political class for “burying their heads in the sand like ostriches” while remaining “preoccupied with the politics of chaos instead of governance.”

His scathing address has reignited calls for the National Assembly to immediately convene emergency sessions on the worsening security crisis bedevilling the country.
