The Sokoto State Government has urged residents to prioritise their safety and remain vigilant, highlighting that security is a shared responsibility between the government and the public.
The statement was made by the State Special Adviser on Security, Colonel Ahmed Abdul Usman (rtd), during his Sallah visits to Gwadabawa Local Government Area on Monday. The visits included paying respects to the Local Government Chairman and the Sarkin Gobir of Gwadabawa, Alhaji Lawal Zayyana.
Col. Usman emphasised that residents have a critical role to play in maintaining safety, including promptly reporting suspicious activity and cooperating with law enforcement agencies. “Security is everyone’s business,” he said, stressing the importance of unity and collaboration between the community and security forces.
The retired officer reaffirmed that Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration remains committed to strengthening security across Sokoto through community engagement programmes, closer coordination with security agencies, and targeted interventions to address emerging threats.
Col. Usman also called on traditional rulers, youth groups, and community leaders to actively discourage crime and foster peaceful coexistence within the state.
As part of his Sallah outreach, the security adviser visited the General Hospital in Gwadabawa, providing cash support to patients and their families while praying for their recovery. “Festive periods are a time to show compassion and care for the community,” he said.
He further offered condolences to Commissioner for Home Affairs, Isa Muhammad Tambagarka, over the loss of his sister, praying for strength for the grieving family.
The visits were accompanied by Alhaji Aminu Bello Gwadabawa, Permanent Secretary of the state Civil Service, Prof. Mu’azu Shamaki, and Alhaji Basharu Guyawa, reflecting the government’s coordinated approach to security and community engagement.
