A fatal motor accident at Sheda village along the Abuja-Lokoja highway has claimed the lives of the Speaker of the Gwagwalada Area Council Legislative Arm, Hon. Mohammed Ibrahim Ibwa, and his aide, Ibrahim Ibwa.
The Speaker died in the early hours of Thursday at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where he was referred after initially receiving treatment at Legend Hospital in Gwagwalada. His aide died on the spot.
According to Daily Post Nigeria, a source explained that the victims were involved in a head-on collision between a Mercedes-Benz car and a Sino truck at Sheda village at around 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday. Three persons were travelling in the Mercedes-Benz when the crash occurred. The third person is currently receiving medical attention.
Further findings revealed that the Speaker and his aides were returning to Gwagwalada from Kwali after attending a political meeting when their vehicle collided head-on with a trailer coming from the opposite direction near Sheda village.
An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, who spoke on condition of anonymity and participated in the rescue operation, confirmed the incident.
The remains of the late Speaker were buried according to Islamic rites in his Ibwa community in Gwagwalada Area Council. Dignitaries at the burial included the chairman-elect of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Mohammed Kasim Ikwa; former council chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha; former House of Representatives member, Isah Egah Dobi; and other prominent politicians.
FCT APC senatorial aspirant, Senator Philip Aduda, who visited the deceased’s family to commiserate, described the Speaker’s death as shocking and painful, not only to the people of Gwagwalada but to the entire FCT. He said the late Speaker was a committed leader who served his people with dedication, humility, and the fear of God.
