Police in Niger State say they have arrested a 40-year-old woman for allegedly attempting to traffic three young children from the town of Lambata to Abuja.

The suspect, identified as Victoria Chukwumezie, was intercepted by officers at Diko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area after a tip-off.

Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said officers from the Gawu-Babangida Division acted immediately after receiving credible intelligence that a woman was seen travelling with three minors under suspicious circumstances.

According to police, the children — Kazeem (3), Ya’amadu (2) and Idris (2) — were taken into custody safely and have now been reunited with their parents.

During questioning, the suspect claimed she was taking the children to Abuja “for care”, but investigators say the explanation was not convincing and further checks are underway.

Police say they are now investigating whether the woman is connected to a wider human trafficking network.

The Niger State Police Command urged members of the public to remain observant and report any suspicious movement involving children, stressing its commitment to protecting minors across the state.
