The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has revealed that for Nigeria to make any progress as a nation, improvement must come in the power sector.

He said this yesterday in Sokoto while playing host to the Chairman Board of Directors of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO), Alhaji Abbas Muhammad Jega.

Tambuwal said that it is necessary to address the challenges making it impossible for the firm to ensure adequate power supply for the people of the state and the need for consumers to adopt the metering system of billing instead of relying on mere estimations to measure the electricity consumption and scheduling of customer payment, the suggestion if taken into, would address most of the challenges confronting electricity consumers in the state.

He furthered that such a move would be to the benefit of the firm and would go a long way in assisting the firm to identify and evaluate its loyal customers who pay for its services and also enable the customers to get value for their money as they know that they are being reasonably charged.

“If you adhere to the use of the metering system, your teeming customers will be satisfied.”

Citing the telecom services, where according to him “people are enjoying its good services” the same feat, he believed can be achieved by the leadership of KAEDCO.

He said:

“for Nigeria to make any progress as a nation, there must be improvement in the power sector”

The unbundling of the defunct National Electricity Power Authority (NEPA) has not been completely successful.

“If other countries can do it we can as well do it, the challenges confronting the sector, he said can be surmounted if and when the government gets serious”.

He comfirmed his administration will continue to support the firm aimed at ensuring and providing stable and affordable power to our people.

Speaking on the extent of the problems and complications of the firm, Jega, was optimistic that the firm’s interaction with the Sokoto State Government and the broad spectrum of its customers will lead to better understanding and result in a stronger company and more stable electricity for the state.
