Fresh FM 106.9 FM, a privately owned radio station in Ekiti State, on Tuesday morning, announced a temporary ban on the music of Nigerian artist Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley.
The ban, disclosed on the station’s Instagram account (@freshfm1069adoekitiby) and signed by its Head of Production and Music Content, Oluwaseunfunmi Williams, comes in the wake of the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, known as MohBad, as well as criticism surrounding Naira Marley.
This move follows a similar ban imposed by Splash FM 105.5 in Ibadan, Oyo state, on Monday.
It said, “Following the public outcry from the general public trialing the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad), the alleged victimisation from different videos going viral and the involvement of members of his previous record label (Marlian records), fresh 106.9 fm has suspended the airplay of all songs and contents under the banner of Marlian Records.”
Truthlive news recalled that Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley at Marlian Records, died at the age of 27 last Tuesday.
Following the incident, the Lagos State Police Command, on Monday, set up a special investigative team to probe the death of Mohbad and is expected to submit an interim report within two weeks.
