An Investigation panel at Nnamdi Azikiwe University has recommended the removal, suspension, and expulsion of 11staff and students for misconduct.
Among them are a Priest and three lecturers, along with students accused of assisting in the misconduct.
The three lecturers, namely Gbenga Akinfe, Ikechukwu Nwosu, and Oyeyemi Ahmed, all from the Faculty of Education, were implicated in taking money from students in exchange for undeserved grades.
Particularly, Oyeyemi Ahmed, who utilized a student named Paul Tochukwu Emmanuel to collect money from students, falsely listed the names of students who had passed his courses as having failed, all with the intention of extorting money.
The panel established by the institution has suggested Oyeyemi Ahmed’s dismissal, deeming him unsuitable for the University.
As for the students involved, Paul Tochukwu Emmanuel and Chinasa Udeagu, who collaborated with the educators in these wrongdoings, have been suspended for one academic year.
Another student, Daniel Kosisochukwu Chukwuma, has been expelled from the University for financial fraud, defrauding fellow students, exploitation, and non-cooperation with the investigative panel.
Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, the special adviser on Public Relations and Special Duties to the UNIZIK Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Esimone, has stated in a press release that Mr. Emmanuel Ojika, a Senior Executive Officer in the Continuing Education Programme (CEP), was implicated in fraudulent dealings related to the University and has been suspended for six months with half salary.
Likewise, Mr. Chike Nwobu, a Principal Executive Officer II, was found to have abandoned his work for an extended period and was suspended from duty for six months due to gross misconduct.
Additionally, Miss Adaobi Anona and Mrs. Victoria Okafor, both Senior Executive Officers, were accused of fraudulent financial transactions concerning the University and have been suspended for six months with half salary.
Mr. Victor Uruakpa, an Assistant Chief Executive Officer, received a three-month suspension for gross misconduct.
Mr. Johnson Ihuoma Anozie and Rev Canon Dr. Sylvanus Onyeacholam were both accused of assisting and abetting examination misconduct by accepting bribes from students.They have been suspended from duty to facilitate a thorough investigation.
Furthermore, Mr. Sam Okeke, an Examination Officer in the Department of History and International Relations, was found to have cleared and graduated a student, Nneke Chigozie Paschal, who had 12 outstanding courses. As Mr. Sam Okeke admitted to the offense, he was deemed guilty of falsifying results and grades in favor of Nneke Chigozie Paschal.
Consequently, the panel has recommended his dismissal from the University, following the appropriate procedures. Nneke Chigozie Paschal’s results will be revoked, and he will not receive further credentials such as certificates and transcripts.
