Mr. Urum Kalu Eke, a nominee for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Board of Directors, has declined the appointment.

President Bola Tinubu had nominated Kalu-Eke along with four others for confirmation by the Senate. However, Kalu Eke chose not to participate in the Senate’s screening process conducted by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions.

The committee, chaired by Senator Adetokumbo Ashiru, announced Kalu Eke’s absence during the consideration of its report. Consequently, the committee could not recommend him for confirmation.

The Senate confirmed the other four nominees: Mr. Robert Agbide, Mr. Ado Yakubu Wanka, Prof Murtala Sabo Sagagi, and Mrs. Muslimat Olanike Aliyu. Senator Orji Kalu, a former Governor of Abia State and a member of the committee, explained that Kalu Eke declined the appointment due to ongoing engagements and consultations with public and private entities.

Kalu Eke, aged 60, previously served as Group Managing Director of FBN Holdings until December 2021, and held executive positions at First Bank, Diamond Bank Plc, and Deloitte Haskins & Sells International.
