By Lucky Obukohwo, reporting
The Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has paid on the-spot-assessment visit to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Benin branch 24 hours after the violent attack on the various commercial banks in the state.
The governor was led by the top management staff of the CBN.
The governor also visited the various banks vandalized by the angry protesters.
Addressing residents of Akpakpava Road who witnessed the wanton destruction of bank facilities by the hoodlums who hijacked the protest, he asked them to furnish him with the footages of the destruction if anyone has it, noting that, that will enable the security agencies track the perpetrators.
Narrating her ordeals before the governor, Mrs. Evelyn Tony said the protesters came to their area and started hauling stones at the banks and thereafter, destroyed their Automated Teller Machines (ATMs)
She said that what pained her more was that, one of the banks vandalized by the protesters has been dispensing cash since the CBN’s stringent policy hits the country.
Evenlyn, while decrying the damage done to the bank, said the actions of the protesters have further made things worse for the residents of the state.
Another respondent, Mr Augustine Awoti Oghene, narrated how the protesters came in a commando-like style, vandalized the banks and destroyed their property.
He however thanked the governor for coming to see things for himself.
