The Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has urged the federal government to rescue the students kidnapped by bandits in Sokoto and Kaduna states.

Recall that over 200 students were taken from a school in Kaduna and about 15 Tsangaya students abducted in Sokoto.

Speaking in Abuja during the launch of a technical assistance program for Nigeria, the WTO director expressed sadness over the abductions and hoped for their swift recovery.

She further emphasized the importance of education and called for concerted efforts to bring the abducted students back home.

She said, “I am sad because I am here at a time when once more hundreds of our school children and teachers have been abducted.

“As a mother, grandmother, educator and someone for whom education is paramount to creating economic opportunities, I am sad.

“And with the representative of my brother, the national security adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, I hope we can be able to recover them soon in Kaduna and Sokoto.”
