In a strong resentment to recent remarks made by former Edo State Governor and current Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, Darlington Okpebholo Ray, the Lead Spokesman of Team Asue Media Organisation (TAMO) and Deputy Director of Diaspora Media for the PDP Asue/Ogie Campaign Organization, has condemned Oshiomhole for mocking Governor Godwin Obaseki and his wife, Betsy Obaseki, for being childless.
Oshiomhole’s reckless comments, made during a press interview, have sparked outrage, especially among women across Edo State and beyond.
In a press statement released on Sunday, Okpebholo Ray expressed deep disappointment over the former governor’s remarks, describing them as “dripping with insensitivity.” He further emphasized that such personal matters, including fertility and family choices, should never be weaponized for political gain.
“Oshiomhole’s unwarranted and callous attack on the Obasekis’ “childlessness” is not only beneath the dignity of his office but also an affront to the millions of couples and individuals who, for various reasons, may not have children,” Okpebholo Ray stated.
The statement from the PDP Chieftain went on to criticize Oshiomhole for perpetuating harmful stereotypes and outdated narratives that undermine societal progress.
“For Oshiomhole to publicly question the value of a marriage based on whether a couple has children or not reflects an alarming detachment from the principles of respect, love, and understanding,” Okpebholo Ray added.
As the PDP Asue/Ogie Campaign Organization and indeed the good people of Edo state stand firmly with Governor Obaseki and his wife, Okpebholo Ray called on all Nigerians to reject toxic politics that thrive on personal attacks rather than constructive dialogue. The statement concluded with a demand for Senator Oshiomhole to issue a public apology and reminded political leaders to elevate the discourse with integrity and respect.
