A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, identified as Zachary Madueke was brutally beheaded by unidentified gunmen.
Truthlive news learnt that the Madueke, who had served as the LP’s campaign director during the 2023 general elections, fell victim to this gruesome act on Wednesday night.
According to sources, approximately ten gunmen, armed with pump-action rifles, machetes, and other dangerous weapons, carried out the attack when they invaded the community.
Tragically, the assailants later shot Mr. Maduka at a drinking establishment in Amelechi, a village within the Akpukpa Community.
“They beheaded him and left with his head,” a source, who asked not to be named, said.
The deceased, 70, who hailed from Ezieke Akpukpa, a community in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of the state, until his death was the chairperson of the Uturu Development Union in the community.
In response to the incident, the Abia State Police spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent Maureen Chinaka, issued a statement on Thursday confirming the tragic event.
She said that, upon receiving information about the incident, a collaborative team of security forces, including both the police and the military, was promptly dispatched to the area.
“Tragically, they recovered Mr Maduka’s body. Photographic evidence was captured at the scene, the deceased’s remains were promptly evacuated and deposited at Marist Mortuary Uturu,” she said.
Ms. Chinaka further noted that the police have initiated an investigation with the aim of tracking down those responsible for the heinous act against the LP chieftain.
