Walid Jibrin, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), is expected to resign in order to move the party forward.
It was also reported that some members of the PDP national working committee (NWC) met in Abuja on Tuesday and determined not to attend any future meetings presided over by Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman.
According to sources close to the BoT chairman, Jibrin has already informed top members of the party of his intention to resign.
In 2021, Ayu stated that if the PDP’s presidential candidate was a northerner, he would quit as national chairman.
Despite calls for his resignation, the national chairman has remained in power, claiming that those who oppose him are “children.”
Many NWC members have lost faith in Ayu, according to a national officer who attended the meeting, because Ayu dubbed disgruntled members of the party “children” in the midst of reconciliation attempts.
