The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially commenced its national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, with party leaders receiving symbolic flags ahead of the voting process.

Acting National Chairman Amb. Ilya Damagum received the PDP flag, while Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa, serving as Chairman of the National Convention, was presented with the National Convention Flag. Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed, received the Nigerian national flag, and host Governor Seyi Makinde was handed the Oyo State flag.

Other key figures participating in the flag presentation included Senate Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro, who received the Senate flag, and House of Representatives member Hon. Fred Agbedi, who received the House flag.

The convention began with the accreditation of over 3,000 delegates representing the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, marking the first step in the voting process, which is scheduled to start at 16:00 local time.

Ibadan has been buzzing since Friday as party members from across the country arrived for the two-day event. On Friday evening, Governor Makinde hosted a dinner attended by PDP governors, former governors, National Working Committee members, and Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara.

Among the attendees at the dinner were governors from Adamawa, Bauchi, Rivers, and Zamfara, as well as former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Ibrahim Dankwambo.

The convention is a key event in the PDP’s calendar, as it will shape the party’s leadership structure ahead of the next election cycle and set the stage for internal party unity.
