The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial campaign received a significant boost in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area, as a large number of defectors from various political parties joined their ranks.
The influx of new members is seen as a major endorsement of the PDP’s candidates, Dr. Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie.
Chief Harrison Echie, the former All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) candidate in the last Edo State House of Assembly election, led the defectors. He revealed that those joining the PDP included members of the ANPP, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Labour Party.
Echie expressed his excitement at joining the PDP, citing the impressive performance of Governor Godwin Obaseki as a key factor. He assured that the people of Esan Central would show strong support for the PDP in the upcoming September 21 election to ensure the continuation of developmental projects across the state.
Governor Obaseki, who welcomed the new members at Eguare Primary School in Irrua, emphasized that the PDP is presenting the most capable and credible candidates in the election. He urged the community to mobilize and vote for Ighodalo and Ogie, assuring them that the progress made under his administration would continue.
Obaseki criticized the APC for the hardships caused by their governance at the national level, stressing that their policies have only led to increased suffering.
He reaffirmed that the PDP’s candidates have the experience and capability to lead the state toward continued prosperity.
Dr. Asue Ighodalo, in his address, thanked the crowd for their overwhelming support. He highlighted the intelligence and sophistication of the Edo people, asserting that they deserve leaders who are educated and competent. Ighodalo also pledged to address the water shortages in Esan land, promising that if elected, he and Ogie would ensure a reliable water supply for the community.
