The First Lady of Edo State, Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki, has urged women in the state to put their numerical strength into positive use by voting massively for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Mr. Asue Ighodalo in the forthcoming September 21 governorship election in the state.
She also tasked the Edo women and all Nigerians to recognize the crucial role of elections in shaping their future.
Mrs. Obaseki made the appeal during the women’s campaign for the 2024 Edo State Governorship election organized by the PDP Women Campaign Council in Irrua, the Council headquarters of Esan Central Local Government Area of the state.
Addressing an enthusiastic crowd from Esan Central, Esan West, and Igueben, the event highlighted robust support for the PDP’s candidate, Asuen Ighodalo.
Her Excellency emphasized the importance of choosing capable leadership, noting that the quality of governance directly impacts daily life, including economic conditions such as rising food prices. “Elections should not be treated lightly,” she remarked, underscoring how leadership can influence the nation’s prosperity or challenges.
Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, the wife of the PDP candidate, appealed to the women for their vital support, comparing it to the care a mother gives her child. She expressed confidence in their backing to help her husband secure victory.
PDP leaders from Esan reiterated these messages, urging the electorate to show their gratitude to Governor Obaseki by voting for Ighodalo.
For Mrs. Ihenyen, the Special Adviser on Political Matters for Edo Central Senatorial District, she praised the governor’s focus on substantial work over monetary politics and encouraged voting for Ighodalo as a continuation of good governance.
The event concluded with a united resolve among the women to ensure PDP’s success in the forthcoming election.
