The management of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, makers of Peak Milk has apologise to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over it controversial Good Friday advert that was described as insensitive, offensive, and totally unacceptable.
CAN, had on Monday condemned a social media advert of the company for their Peak Milk brand on Good Friday, in which the crucifixion of Jesus Christ was used as a metaphor and demanded an apology for the Christian community from the company.
Responding to the demand, the Executive director, Ore Famurewa wrote an apology letter on behalf of the company, titled ‘Apology for the Good Friday social media post by peak brand’, dated 10th April, 2023, addressed to the CAN president, Archbishop Daniel Okoh.
In the letter, Famurewa said the post was not intended to make light of the significance of the season nor to inordinately exploit the unmatched sacrifice of Jesus Christ and added that the social media advert has been withdrawn.
“On behalf of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, I hereby tender our unreserved apology to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) as well as to the Christian community at large for the recent Good Friday social media post on the company’s social media handle.”
“We acknowledge the sensitivity of the social media post considering the sobriety of the season. It was neither intended to make light of the significance of the season nor to inordinately exploit the unmatched sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
“We wish to inform the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that the social media post has since been withdrawn.”
The company also assured the public that it would take appropriate steps to ensure that such an incident never happens again in the future.
“Once again, please accept our deepest apology and pledge to prevent a recurrence of such in the future. Do accept the assurances of my esteemed regards.”
