Cross River State Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey has advised Permanent Secretaries to implement directives from the Governor for great achievements.
As a result, he said that the Governor will look into their statutory rights.
Hon. Odey gave the advice when the Exco of the State College of Permanent Secretaries visited him in Calabar.
For instance, Odey said that he owes his success to his decision to learn from some of the Permanent Secretaries he met in the office.
Meanwhile, he has referred to them as the custodians of the institutional memory of the state.
Odey who lauded their commitment to services to the state assured them that Governmment will soon clear pension and gratuities backlog.
Accordingly, “Governmment is dealing with the bottlenecks created by the bloated wage bill,” he told the perm sec.
Nevertheless, the Provost of the College and leader of the delegation, Barr. Peter Bassey, appealed to the governor to revamp the cadre.
He said Permanent Secretaries occupy offices befitting their position, and provide incentives commensurate with their status.
For instance, Barr Bassey, said the college, represents high end reservoir of technocrats and bureaucrats that the state can boast of, but has progressively been relegated to the background by previous administrations.
The provost highlighted some of their statutory entitlements to include accommodation, furniture allowance and provision of car.
The Head of Service and Chairman of Council, Dr. Innocent Eteng, Head of Personal Staff to the Deputy Governor, Dr. Chris Ojikpong attended the visit.
Meanwhile, the deputy governor has charged labour to assist Otu-led administration to weed out retired workers still occupying government offices.
He said this will create room for growth of other workers and the employment of new ones.
On his part, the Cross River State NLC Chairman, Comrade Gregory Olayi, highlighted labour concerns to include stark economic realities.
