Jose Peseiro has officially stepped down as the head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria following the runners up position and the end of his contract post the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In a heartfelt series of tweets on Friday from his X account duly noted by Truth Live News, the Portuguese tactician expressed his pride and honor in coaching the Super Eagles for the past 22 months.

Peseiro, along with his backroom staff, bid farewell to the team, assuring, “We will miss you, but we will always be there for you.”

Peseiro’s departure has not gone unnoticed, with the Algeria Football Federation expressing interest in securing him as their next manager.

This development comes in the aftermath of Djamel Belmadi’s dismissal due to Algeria’s disappointing performance in the recent AFCON, where they failed to progress beyond the group stages.

According to reports, the president of the Algerian football federation, Walid Sadi, is impressed with Peseiro’s coaching credentials. The shortlist for the new manager includes Peseiro, Vladimir Petkovic, and Carlos Queiroz. However, Peseiro seems to be the preferred choice of Walid Sadi, who values the Portuguese coach’s profile, speech, and financial viability.

He leaves with his head high only bested by the host nation who he had beaten in group stages. He is touted to have seven offers globally which is hard to pass up.
