The 2023 Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has offered to fulfill the N30 million bail conditions of embattled Human Rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi.

The announcement was made on Friday via a statement on X by Yunusa Tanko, the Global Coordinator of the Obidient Movement.

Farotimi was recently granted bail by a Federal High Court to the tune of ₦30 million after facing charges that have sparked significant public interest and debate.

Known for his steadfast criticism of corruption and systemic injustice in Nigeria, Farotimi’s legal challenges have drawn widespread attention, with many rallying behind him, including members of the Obidient Movement, a group committed to promoting justice and transparency in governance.

In his statement, Yunusa Tanko disclosed that Peter Obi expressed appreciation to the judiciary for granting bail, underscoring the importance of justice and adherence to due process.

“I consulted HE PO as the leader of the Obidient Movement. As a respecter of the rule of law, due process, and order, he offered to meet Dele Farotimi’s bail conditions,” Tanko wrote.

He added, “He thanked our courts and all concerned on this matter. His concern is that the situation be resolved in the best interest of all involved and our legal system. He extended his sincere appreciation to everyone involved.”

Despite the bail development, Farotimi’s legal battle is set to continue, with the case scheduled for further hearing in January 2025.
