The ongoing 98th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at Wadata Plaza is marked by stringent security protocols, raising concerns among supporters regarding potential clashes outside the venue.
Our correspondent at the Wadata plaza headquarters of the party confirmed there was limited access granted only to accredited individuals, there is apprehension that rival factions may converge outside Wadata Plaza, leading to potential confrontations.
Accreditation procedures, including for media personnel and the only NEC and NWC members were completed a day before the commencement of the event, ensuring a controlled and regulated entry process.
Among the notable figures present at the meeting are Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate for both the 2019 and 2023 elections, alongside Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and various members of the NEC and National Working Committee (NWC).
Outside the premises, various support groups proudly display Atiku and Wike-themed attire, signaling their allegiance to the prominent figures within the party. However, the visible presence of security personnel, including over 200 police officers, officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), along with a fleet of more than 40 security vehicles, offers assurance of a predominantly peaceful gathering.
The robust security arrangements highlights PDP’s commitment to ensuring the safety and orderly conduct of its internal affairs, particularly during significant meetings such as the NEC gathering.
