The second edition of the annual Uromi Like Minds Initiative Free Medical Outreach for all residents of Uromi has been held with the organization taking the centers to seven different communities within the Esan North East local government council of Edo State.
Speaking to Truth Live News on Friday, the chairman of the medical sub-committee which is charged with the responsibility of organizing the exercise yearly, Mr. George Ogun, express his gladness over the successful completion of the 2022 edition.
According to Ogun, the exercise which cost the organization over N2m was held at Ukoni, Oyomon, Onewa, Idumoza, Arue, Idumu-Okojie, and Utako communities all in Uromi.
He said: “We attended to almost 1,500 patients in total, 1,454 to be precise and the women had the highest percentage in attendance with 45%, men 30% with youths and children recording 10% and 15% respectively”.
In his opening remark at the commencement of the exercise, the executive chairman of the ULMI, Mr. Sylvester Abumere Ekpen, highlighted specific types of health challenges the free medical outreach would be focusing on, which he named, malaria checks, BP, sugar tests, eyes examination, free glasses, among others.
The message reads in parts;
“Health, they say, is wealth, Â this is why ULMI, for the second consecutive year, kicked off its seven-day, seven-community FREE medical outreach in Uromi, Esan North East LGA. This medical intervention has become a part of our yearly activities in our efforts at giving back to our community”.
“The free medical outreach is focused on Malaria Tests/Treatment, BP Check/Case Management, Eyes Examination/Free Glasses, Blood Sugar Test/Treatment, and general consultation. A healthy people make for a wealthy nation”.
We urge all our brothers and sisters in the listed/nearby communities to always take advantage of this opportunity to enhance their health and general well-being”.

On his part, the chairman, the welfare committee of the organization, and coordinator of the program, Engr. Sebastine Osita, expressed his appreciation to members of his committee who were present in Uromi during the 7 days the exercise lasted, stating that the program was a huge success due to the cooperation and participation of them all.
Prince Kenneth Edenojie, the organization`s Director of Projects acknowledged that the program was successful and stated that despite the turn out which was very impressive compared with the first edition, there were leftovers of about 16 pers of glasses that were not collected.
He said: “We thank God for the success of the event, we had a good turn out but yet, we have many drugs and 16 eyeglasses unused, which means we were fully prepared for this year`s edition”.
