Painstaking and meticulous trailing of kidnappers by police with assistance from vigilantes and hunters paid off after operatives swooped on villains who orchestrated abduction a woman and her son in Shao, Kwara State on Tuesday, Truth live.net has learnt.
In an ensuing rescue operation, the police swooped on the kidnappers killing two of them while they sat down in the bushes to share Ransome money obtained from the relatives of the victims.
According to police report on the incident, the kidnap happened in the late night of yesterday at about 11 pm in Shao after Afusat Lawal l, a mother and her son one Taofeek Lawal were abducted and whisked away.
The kidnappers were accosted in the bush while sharing the ransom collected from the family of the victims.
“The fugitives opened fire on the police which proved costly for them,” explained Ajayi Okasanmi, SP, spokesman for the Kwara Police Command.
“During exchange of fire, two of the kidnappers that suffered gunshot injuries during the encounter were arrested and taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital where they were confirmed dead.
“Consequently, their corpses were deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Exhibit recovered from the kidnappers includes one Honda Accord Saloon car with Reg. Number LAGOS GJ 52 LSR, one single barrel gun and an unspecified amount of money.
“Effort is still being intensified to get other fleeing members of the gang,” Okasanmi said.
