BOKI, CROSS RIVER –The Cross River State Police Command has launched an investigation into allegations of brutality involving Benedict Osang, also known as “Bishop,” in Boki Local Government Area.
A viral video circulating on social media accuses Osang of assaulting civilians, sparking public outrage.
However, in response to the controversy, the Police Command clarified that Osang is no longer a serving officer.
According to official records, he was enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force in 2011 but later deserted while serving under the Rivers State Police Command.
He is currently a political appointee in Boki Local Government Area and has no ties to the police force.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident, stressing the Command’s commitment to upholding human rights and professional conduct.
Authorities have urged any victims or witnesses to come forward with relevant evidence to assist the inquiry.
“The findings of this investigation will be made public in line with our commitment to transparency,” the Police Public Relations Officer, Ugbo Irene, stated.
The Command reassured residents of Cross River State that it remains committed to enforcing the rule of law and ensuring justice.
Citizens are encouraged to report any incidents of misconduct to the appropriate authorities.
