Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra State, has called on people in Nigeria’s south-east to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Soludo made the appeal during his second-term inauguration at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the state capital. The oath of office was administered by Anambra State Chief Judge Onochie Anyachebelu to Soludo at 11:47 a.m., followed five minutes later by deputy governor Onyekachukwu Ibezim.
The ceremony was attended by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, as well as former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
Addressing the gathering, Soludo urged the south-east not to “waste” votes on alternative candidates, saying the region should instead support Tinubu.
He added that while the political future of the Igbo people remains important, producing a president from the south-east is not an immediate priority.
“President Tinubu is a cerebral, courageous and patriotic Nigerian. We trust him to make a major difference for Nigeria and the south-east,” Soludo said, highlighting what he described as positive changes in the region under Tinubu’s administration.
Soludo also called on political opponents in Anambra to put aside differences and focus on governance and development, stressing that political contests in the state had concluded.
Vice-President Shettima praised Soludo’s leadership, describing him as a public servant guided by ideas and integrity.
He reaffirmed the federal government’s readiness to collaborate with the Anambra state government and urged residents to support initiatives aimed at positioning the state as a key economic and investment hub.
