The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, expressed concerns over threats from powerful individuals sponsoring illegal mining activities in Nigeria.

Alake previously raised an alarm before the House of Representatives, revealing that illegal miners, identified as influential Nigerians, were linked to banditry, terrorism, and insecurity in the country.
Despite facing threats, he emphasized the importance of exposing the truth and highlighted the need for both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to address the issue.
Alake disclosed that these well-funded bandits, supported by high-ranking individuals, possessed heavy weaponry and even laid mines against ground forces attempting to dislodge them.
To tackle this menace, he emphasized collaboration with the military, outlining strategies to clear the forest areas affected.
The Minister highlighted ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to address insecurity, involving critical stakeholders at various levels.
Regarding a recent explosion in Ibadan, Alake assured the public that the government would work with the state to make informed decisions based on forensic reports.
He visited victims at the University College Hospital and commended Governor Seyi Makinde for a prompt response to the incident.
The President acknowledged Makinde’s efforts, further emphasizing the commendable response of the Oyo State Government.
Alake concluded by noting the importance of people responding commendably to unfortunate situations, expressing gratitude for the collaborative efforts at both federal and state levels.
