President Bola Tinubu is set to leave Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Thursday to take part in the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government.
According to a statement from Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the President will engage in high-level discussions with other African leaders on topics such as African Union institutional reforms, peace, and security.
The statement, titled ‘President Tinubu to attend 37th AU summit in Addis Ababa,’ also mentions Tinubu’s participation in talks on climate change and the AU’s role in the G20.
This year’s summit focuses on the theme ‘Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa.’
Additionally, Tinubu, in his capacity as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), will attend an extraordinary summit of the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government.
Accompanied by ministers and top government officials, Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja after the summit.
This visit to Ethiopia marks Tinubu’s fourth trip to an African country since assuming the presidency nine months ago and his 15th foreign trip overall.
