Bishop Mathew Kukah of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese, has urged the Federal Government to uphold the right to freedom of religion and worship particularly in the Northern Nigeria, as guaranteed by the country’s constitution and other laws.
The Bishop made the call while speaking to newsmen after the inaugural Mass at the catholic chaplaincy of the 119 Composite Group of the Nigeria Air force Sokoto.
According to him, this can be accomplished by giving followers of diverse religions in the country access to places of worship in the many Federal Government facilities spread out across the country.
Bishop Kukah, While highlighting the value of places of worship that allow personnel to practice their religion freely, he claimed that many federal government universities, medical facilities, and other establishments do not have provisions for places of worship for Christians, particularly in many parts of Northern Nigeria, which is a violation of the constitution.
Kukah urges the FG to uphold the right to practice one’s religion.
