RHI: Senator Oluremi Tinubu Launches Economic Empowerment Programme for PWDs In Edo

In commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Economic Empowerment Programme for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Edo State.

The event was held at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, Edo State.

The First Lady announced that 250 persons living with disabilities in each state and the Federal Capital Territory have received Two Hundred Thousand Naira, (₦200,000) business recapitalisation grants to support the growth and sustainability of their small-scale enterprises.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu was represented by the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Anani.

Senator Tinubu noted that the initiative was designed to strengthen the economic resilience of Nigerians with disabilities and promote their full inclusion in national development.

She said a total of N50 million was allocated to each state and the FCT, bringing the total number of empowered Nigerians with disabilities to 9,500 nationwide.

The First Lady announced that the empowerment programme, valued at One billion, nine hundred million naira, (N1,900,000,000) will now be held annually on December 3rd to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Senator Tinubu urged beneficiaries to utilize the grants effectively, stating, “Let it be a seed that grows into something greater—a business that supports you and your family.”

Earlier, the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to disability inclusion, highlighting that Edo State has established — by law—a dedicated agency mandated to advance the welfare and rights of persons with disabilities.

In his goodwill message, Executive Director, Network for the Advancement People with Visible Disabilities. (NAPVID) Mr Melody Omosah commended Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her compassionate leadership and steadfast commitment to fostering inclusivity for persons with disabilities across the state.

The highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of empowerment grants to the beneficiaries.
