The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Odu, has left the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), marking another major political shift in the state.
Professor Odu officially registered as a member of the APC on Sunday in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, weeks after Governor Siminalayi Fubara and several lawmakers from Rivers State defected to the party.
Following her registration, she toured communities across six zones of the local government area, encouraging residents to participate in the APC’s ongoing electronic membership registration.
Speaking to supporters, Professor Odu said her decision was aimed at consolidating support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and Governor Fubara’s leadership in Rivers State.
She described the large turnout during her visit as a sign of growing acceptance of the APC at the grassroots level.
“Today, I came to sensitise the people, and everywhere we went, there were large crowds who came out to receive us. They said wherever I go, they will go with me; and wherever Governor Fubara and President Tinubu go, they will go.
“You can see the joy and happiness. I have touched all the six zones — Egi, Omoku, Osomini, Igburu, Egbema and Ndoni,” Odu added.
According to a statement from her office, the visit also witnessed the defection of hundreds of members of the Labour Party to the APC, particularly in Ndoni community.
