The Rivers State Government has announced the inauguration of ten new projects across six local government areas, signalling a return to active governance after a brief interregnum.
The projects are scheduled to be commissioned between 10 and 23 December, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, told journalists at a briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday.
While the government described the initiatives as a boost to local development, the long-anticipated new Assembly Complex will not be among the projects to be commissioned before the end of the year. Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who recently inspected the facility along Moscow Road, had previously promised that the complex would be ready in time to host the presentation of the 2026 budget.
At the briefing, Dr. Anabraba emphasised Governor Fubara’s commitment to fulfilling the mandate given by the people of Rivers State and delivering the dividends of democracy.
He said the administration was dedicated to ensuring that infrastructure development, social welfare programmes, and security measures reached all citizens, regardless of location.
“Beginning from Wednesday, December 10 to 23 December, the projects for commissioning and flag-off will cut across Ahoada East and Ahoada West, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Ikwerre, Emohua, Obio/Akpor, and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
“We thank the people of Rivers State for finding His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, who is humbled by the trust reposed in him and honoured by the privilege bestowed upon him to serve as the Governor of Rivers State at this time. We hereby convey the Governor’s commitment to ensuring that the dividends of democracy are delivered to all citizens, irrespective of location, while maintaining peace and development in the state.
“As a government that secured its electoral victory on the popular mandate of the good people of Rivers State, we pledged at the inception of this administration to make the welfare of our citizens a priority of our social contract. This we have diligently worked to protect and provide through the delivery of critical infrastructure and other welfare programmes, including maintaining peace and order for the socio-economic growth and development of the state.”
The Secretary expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for interventions that, according to him, facilitated the resumption of governance and the continuity of development projects.
Dr. Anabraba reassured residents that their safety remained a priority, noting that the government was actively addressing recent security concerns and urging citizens to maintain peace.
