Cross River State, Governor Sen. Bassey Edet Otu, has with other dignitaries mourned the death of specialist surgeon who treat disorders of the urinary system, Late Prof. Edet Okon Mkposong.
The international urologist who hailed from Cross River State recently passed away at the age of 94.
Until his death, he was a specialist surgeon who treats anyone with a problem with their kidneys, bladder, prostate and male reproductive organs.
He treated a wide range of conditions, such as cancer, kidney stones, infection, incontinence, sexual dysfunction and pelvic floor problems.
Late Prof. Mkposong who retired as Chief of Surgical Services at Farasan General Hospital, Jizan, Saudi Arabia, also taught at the University of Ibadan and the University of Calabar.
During his lifetime, he contributed exponentially to the advancement of the medical profession including the establishment of the first Urology Unit in Nigeria at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Governor Otu who was represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, at the funeral service held in honour of Late Prof. Mkposong at the Wesley Cathedral of the Methodist Church, Calabar, described him as quintessential medical professional, erudite scholar and astute administrator.
He said his demise, though irreplaceable and painful occurrence at this point of the State’s health care drive was a celebration of a life well spent.
Chief Press Secretary to Deputy Governor Mr Fred Abua Esq. In a social media post to Truth Live News on Friday said that Hon. Odey attended the event with former governor Donald Duke and Sen. Ita-Giwa among other dignitaries.
He said they also gave glowing commendations in celebration of the impactful life Late Prof. Mkposong lived.
