A team of detectives from the Osun State Criminal Investigation Department SCID, was ambushed by hoodlums in Ipetumodu, Osun State, during a midnight operation to apprehend two prime murder suspects.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, with the operatives, led by Divisional Police Officer DPO, Johnson Olajonrin, moved to apprehend two prime murder suspects whose case had been transferred to the SCID.
According to security sources, the assailants opened fire on the team, leaving several officers injured alongside a vigilante operative. Swift reinforcement was deployed, forcing the attackers to retreat.
A Toyota Camry with registration number KWL 906 Abuja was recovered from the scene.
The wounded police officers were treated and discharged from Amazing Grace Clinic, while the vigilante, identified as Odewale Adepoju, remains hospitalised.
Police authorities confirmed that an investigation into the ambush is underway, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
