Former Senator Ehigie Edobor Uzamere, who previously represented Edo South Senatorial District, has emphasized the paramount importance of maintaining harmony among Edo State residents irrespective of political differences.

With the eagerly anticipated September 2024 gubernatorial election on the horizon, Uzamere’s message resonates as a timely reminder to prioritize collective progress over divisive partisanship.

In a press statement titled “OUR UNITY IN EDO STATE IS PARAMOUNT, IRRESPECTIVE OF OUR POLITICAL AFFILIATIONS,” released to Truth Live News on Tuesday, Uzamere tactfully addressed the escalating tensions and exchanges witnessed on social media platforms regarding the forthcoming election.

“I’ve seen the exchanges on social media with regards to the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo state,” Uzamere remarked, acknowledging the fervent discussions permeating online discourse.

Uzamere implored fellow citizens to elevate the discourse by focusing on substantive issues rather than resorting to personal attacks or divisive rhetoric based on political affiliations. Emphasizing the rich history of governance by both the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Uzamere urged residents to evaluate candidates based on their merits and track records rather than mere party allegiance.

“We should not be abusive, and neither should we allow our personal interest to be-cloud our sense of fairness in judgement,” Uzamere asserted, advocating for a dignified and respectful electoral process.

Furthermore, Uzamere cautioned against the politicization of traditional institutions, underscoring the importance of preserving Edo State’s cultural heritage and traditions. He urged citizens to uphold the sanctity of these institutions and refrain from using them as pawns in political gamesmanship.

Uzamere stressed the need for a rigorous evaluation of gubernatorial candidates, urging voters to scrutinize their family backgrounds, academic and professional qualifications, as well as their understanding of governance and commitment to the development of Edo State.

Reflecting on his own political philosophy characterized by a commitment to civility and inclusivity, Uzamere reiterated his belief in a politics devoid of bitterness, encapsulated in the Edo adage “aguiyekampe.”

While expressing his personal support for the Asue Ighodalo/Osarodion Ogie ticket, Uzamere remained open to differing opinions, acknowledging the diversity of perspectives within the electorate. He called for respectful discourse, even in the face of disagreement, highlighting the importance of maintaining decorum and dignity in political engagement.
