The Edo State House Assembly announced on Monday that they’re putting out an official notice in newspapers to impeach Deputy Governor Comrade Phillip Shaibu.
This decision came after the Deputy Governor ignored a notice served to him by the House last week.
Recall that The Edo House of Assembly, on Wednesday, commenced impeachment proceedings against the state’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.
The impeachment notice, signed by 21 out of 24 lawmakers, accused the Deputy Governor of perjury and revealing government official secrets.
He was given a seven-day ultimatum to respond, which expires on Wednesday.
However, speaking during the plenary session, the Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, said the Deputy Governor refused to accept the impeachment notice and hasn’t been showing up at the House since then.
It’s said that his household and staff were told not to accept any letters from strangers.
To make sure things move quickly and follow the rules, the House directed the clerk, Yahaya Omogbai, to publish the impeachment notice in the Nigerian Observer newspaper and other national dailies.
