D’Tigress Defeat Colombia In World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, defeated Colombia in their opening game of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournament on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

The match was played at the Astroballe Arena in Villeurbanne, near Lyon, France.

D’Tigress dominated the encounter from the opening quarter, controlling possession and limiting Colombia’s scoring opportunities throughout the game.

Nigeria eventually secured a comfortable 70–37 victory, extending their impressive run in international competitions.

Victoria Macaulay led Nigeria’s scoring with 13 points, delivering a strong performance to help the team claim the convincing win.

The African champions maintained steady pressure on Colombia, taking an early lead and widening the gap in the second half through disciplined defence and effective ball movement.

Truth Live News reports that Nigeria’s participation in the tournament follows their triumph at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket, which secured their qualification for the 2026 Women’s World Cup.

The qualifying tournament is expected to serve as preparation for the global championship scheduled to take place later in 2026.
