The Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinnma has described the Stephen Oronsaye reports as brilliant, bold and courageous document that will right the wrong and cut down cost of governance in the country.
He said this after meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Governor Uzodinnma said that the decision by President Bola Tinubu to implement the report will not only enhance governance but also improve the nation’s economy.
According to him, economic exigencies in the world over have warranted a reduction in the size of government and prudent management of resources adding that if the 2012 report is properly applied, it will add value to current policies and save cost.
“All over the world, what people are talking about now; due to exigencies of the economic impact globally, is to cut cost and do a prudent management of resources. So, Stephen Oronsanya’s report is a very brilliant, bold and courageous document. If properly implemented, it will add value to the current policies and determination of government to cut cost and be prudent in expenditure”, Uzodinnma said.
Truth Live News Media reports that in 2011, former President Goodluck Jonathan constituted the Stephen Oronsaye-led panel to identify inadequacies in the country’s civil service.
In 2012, the committee submitted an 800-page report and recommended the abolishment and merging of 102 government agencies and parastatals.
The committee on the white paper submitted its report in 2014.
Since the submission of the report, the recommendations have not been implemented.
On Monday, President Bola Tinubu directed the full implementation of the Oronsaye report.
The report revealed that there are 541 statutory and non-statutory federal government parastatals, commissions and agencies.
