The Taraba State Government has made the decision to provide certain allowances to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state.
This includes a one-time payment of N50,000 as a medical allowance for NYSC members.
Additionally, there will be an accommodation allowance of N25,000 per term and a monthly support allowance of N10,000, all approved by the governor.
The Taraba State Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Zainab Usman, announced this development in a statement on Sunday.
She clarified that the N50,000 medical allowance is specifically intended for NYSC members assigned to schools.
This decision was influenced by the significant increase in school enrollments following the government’s initiative of providing free basic education, uniforms, and other learning materials.
“The recent surge in new student enrollments in our primary and secondary schools within the past ten working days has made immediate action necessary,” Usman explained.
It’s worth noting that the Federal Government currently pays NYSC members a monthly allowance of N33,000 in accordance with the national minimum wage law signed by President Buhari on April 18, 2019.
