The Bauchi State Police Command has deployed additional security personnel and enhanced weaponry to communities affected by renewed banditry attacks in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
The deployment follows a resurgence of security concerns in Gwana, Digare and Kafin Duguri.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, said the operation was part of a coordinated security response involving the police, the military, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other agencies.
He explained that the decision was taken after a comprehensive security assessment of the affected communities.
“In recent days, there has been a resurgence of security concerns in Gwana, Digare and Kafin Duguri. Following a thorough assessment, the Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, initiated a massive deployment of joint security personnel to suppress the activities of criminal elements,” Habib said.
He noted that the affected border communities have historically faced security challenges due to infiltration by criminal elements from neighbouring states.
The police spokesman, however, reassured residents of Mansur town, many of whom reportedly fled over fears of possible attacks that the situation remains under control.
“Despite recent incidents in neighbouring Gwana District, Mansur town remains unaffected and there is no cause for alarm,” he stated.
Habib confirmed that security operatives have intensified patrols and strategic positioning to prevent any breakdown of law and order, stressing that there will be no safe haven for bandits in the area.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, emphasised the importance of community cooperation, urging residents to promptly report suspicious movements or unfamiliar individuals.
According to him, all intelligence provided by members of the public will be treated with strict confidentiality.
The Command encouraged residents to continue their lawful activities without fear, assuring them that security operations will be sustained to ensure peace and stability across the affected communities.
