Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Kwara State to personally assess the aftermath of the devastating terrorist attack that left more than 100 people dead in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Shettima conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s firm message that the Federal Government remains committed to tracking down the perpetrators and ensuring they are arrested and prosecuted.
The visit, according to the statement, is part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to support affected communities, assist victims, and strengthen security coordination in the region.
Earlier on Thursday, President Tinubu had received a comprehensive security briefing from Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, at the State House in Abuja over the Kaiama attack.
Following the meeting, the President approved the deployment of an army battalion to the area and announced the commencement of a military operation tagged “Operation Savannah Shield,” aimed at dismantling the terrorist network and safeguarding vulnerable communities.
Recall that the coordinated attacks on Woro and the nearby Nuku community occurred on the evening of Tuesday, 3 February 2026, when armed attackers invaded the rural settlements.
Local residents disclosed that the assailants had earlier issued warnings and messages, claiming they were coming to “preach” and to pressure villagers to abandon loyalty to the Nigerian state in favour of extremist interpretations of law demands that the communities firmly rejected.
