TikTok CEO Vows to Fight Against U.S. Law Threatening Ownership Changes, App Ban

Shou Chew, the CEO of TikTok, has pledged to resist a U.S. law aiming to force changes in ownership.

In a video released on Thursday, Shou stated that the company will utilize all legal avenues to defend its platform.

Truthlive news recall that the House of Representatives in Washington had passed a bill that could ban the popular video-sharing app, owned by China-based ByteDance.

The bill is now in the Senate, with its outcome uncertain.

While some lawmakers support the bill, it doesn’t outright ban TikTok but seeks a change in ownership. If TikTok remains under ByteDance, it could face removal from U.S. app stores.

Concerns in Washington have long revolved around ByteDance’s access to user data, which some fear could be exploited by Beijing for propaganda or spying.

Shou argued that the law would concentrate influence among a few social media giants and could jeopardize 300,000 jobs in the U.S. TikTok emphasizes its role in supporting small businesses through advertising and boasts 170 million U.S. users.

Former President Donald Trump previously tried to ban TikTok and force ByteDance to divest the app, but legal challenges halted the efforts.
