President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to delay their planned protests, asking for more time to fulfill his administration’s promises.
Tinubu’s appeal comes amid rising frustration over economic difficulties and other challenges faced by citizens.
Through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the President assured the public that he is aware of their concerns and is working diligently to address them.
“We discussed the country’s issues, and Mr. President wants Nigerians, especially the young people planning protests, to know that he is listening,” Idris told reporters after meeting with Tinubu.
While acknowledging the hardships, the government believes that protests at this time could be counterproductive.
“Mr. President takes their concerns seriously and is working hard to improve the country now and in the future. He sees no need for protests at this moment and urges people to hold off and wait for the government’s response to their concerns,” Idris said.
This appeal for patience comes as various groups prepare for nationwide protests to express dissatisfaction with the economic situation.
The government has called for cooperation, promising that measures are being taken to alleviate current difficulties.
“For example, the National Assembly swiftly passed the National Minimum Wage bill today, showing the President’s commitment. This bill was introduced yesterday and passed today,” Idris noted.
“The government is working on other interventions as well and assures that these efforts will benefit Nigerians. The President asks for more time to deliver on these promises and ensure that support reaches those in need.”
