President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Aminu Yusuf as Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC).
He also sworn in two newly appointed NPC commissioners and five former federal directors elevated to Permanent Secretary status
The ceremony took place at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, shortly before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) convened behind closed doors.
Yusuf, confirmed by the Senate in October, pledged to prioritise transparency and credibility in delivering Nigeria’s next national population census, a critical task for governance and planning.
The two commissioners sworn in with him represent their respective states, further strengthening the composition of the NPC.
Similarly, President Tinubu administered the oath of office to five new Permanent Secretaries: Abdulkarim Ozi Ibrahim (North Central), John Ezeamama, Abdul Garba (North West), Ishiyaku Mohammed (North East), and Ukaire Chigbowu (South East).
The Council also observed a minute of silence in honour of the late Joy Ogwu, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, who passed away at age 79.
Following the solemn occasion, the FEC meeting proceeded with Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, ministers, and special advisers in attendance.
