A Mercedes Benz Tipper conveying 31 passengers to a burial ceremony is reported to have involved in an accident where five persons have been confirmed dead and 24 injured.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Reports that out of the injured persons 22 were male adults including one female adult and one female child.
The accident which was reported to have occurred around “12:41 p.m” on Saturday in Abakpa Community, Ogoja LGA, Cross River Northern Senatorial District, south south region of Nigeria was confirmed by the men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
In a telephone interview, it was reported that the Sector Commander, Mr. Abdullahi Hassan, who confirmed the incident said the driver lost control of the vehicle when his tire burst.
Hassan, went on to say that three of the corpses were deposited in the mortuary while those injured were taken to the General Hospital Ogoja for treatment.
He said “the other two corpses were immediately retrieved by their relatives at the scene of the accident.”
