Tragedy struck at Nasarawa State University (NSUK) as three students were tragically killed in a chaotic rush during the distribution of rice palliatives by the state government on Friday.

The heartbreaking incident unfolded at the convocation square where the bags of rice were kept awaiting the arrival of Gov. Abdullahi Sule for the commencement of distribution.

Eyewitness Moses Ajah recounted the harrowing scene, describing how the overwhelming crowd of students overwhelmed security personnel and forcibly entered the square, leading to a stampede.

Ajah lamented the unfortunate turn of events, noting that the desperate struggle for rice escalated rapidly.

He revealed that amidst the chaos, some students sustained injuries and were promptly receiving medical attention on campus.

Shockingly, despite the absence of the governor, some students managed to seize bags of rice and fled to their hostels and residences.

As authorities attempted to restore order, police officers were seen reclaiming the palliatives from students.

When contacted, Mr Abraham Ekpo, Information and Protocol Officer of the University, said he was aware of the incident but yet to get details about it.
