Protesters in their numbers have stormed the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday, calling for the immediate release of the detained human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore.

The demonstrators, most of whom were dressed in black, were seen with the national flag while chanting anti-government songs.

They accused an unnamed Assistant Commissioner of Police of intimidation, denying claims that they barricaded the road.

Addressing Journalists, one of the protesters said, “We are exercising our fundamental constitutional rights. We did not block any road; an Assistant Commissioner of Police is here to intimidate us. He came alongside a dog to attack us.

“We are here within the ambit of the law, let it be on record.”

Recall that Omoyele Sowore arrived at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, on Wednesday after he was invited over alleged “forgery and inciting disturbance.”

He was reportedly detained the next day, with members of the public calling for his immediate release.
