Vice President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris has called for a ban on assault weapons across the US.
Kamala who made the call in a tweet on Tuesday wrote, “If we defend our majority in the U.S. House and expand our majority in the Senate, imagine what we can do.”
“We can fight for every worker to have paid family leave. We can fight for every family to have affordable childcare.”
She said based on this premise, “we can fight for a ban on assault weapons.”
Truthlive.net reports that following the increase in the spare of gun violence across the country, the U.S. House of Representatives in August passed a ban on semi-automatic firearms — the weapons used in multiple mass shootings.
All the Democrats except five backed the ban while only two Republicans voted in favor of the bill.
Meanwhile, sponsor of the bill, Rep. David Cicilline, a Rhode Island Democrat said on the floor of the house that movie theaters, places of worship, schools, hospitals and grocery stores have become “bloody battlefield scenes.”
The House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once said that each year, more children die from gun violence than any other cause.”
“Our nation has watched unspeakable horror as assault weapons have been used in massacre after massacre.”
However, in the last few days, there has been renewed call for the ban of assault weapons by leaders in the country.
