The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, demonstrated solidarity with the Muslim community by distributing food items, in observance of the Ramadan fast.
The distribution took place at the Cyprien Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture in Area 10, Garki, Abuja, with Head of Service, Samuel Udo Atang, representing the minister.
The items distributed to beneficiaries are over 5000 bags of rice, 1000 cartons of vegetable oil, 1000 cartons of sugar.
The minister emphasized that the gesture is aimed to alleviate the impact of rising food prices and ensure that Muslims in the FCT could break their fast with ease.
He urged Muslims to use the fasting period to pray for peace in the country and the good health of President Bola Tinubu.
Director of Protocol in the minister’s office, Sani Daura, described the initiative not only as an act of charity but also as a demonstration of the FCT Administration’s commitment to supporting residents in times of need.
He highlighted the initiative as a symbol of hope and solidarity, reflecting the true spirit of Ramadan – a time of giving, compassion, and unity.
In response, Chief Imam of the official residence of the FCT Minister, Ustaz Lawal Mustafa, and Head of Bwari Vocational Rehabilitation Centre, Bala Tsoho Musa, expressed gratitude to the FCT Minister for easing their hardship and enabling them to observe the fast in a good state of mind.
The distribution of food items during Ramadan underscores the FCT Administration’s commitment to fostering unity and supporting the welfare of its residents, irrespective of religious affiliation.
Additionally, it aligns with Wike’s call for residents to reach out to the needy and embody sacrificial lives, as exemplified by Jesus Christ during Easter.
